Glasgow Humane Society is the oldest practical life saving
society in the world. The Society house and the wharf have
been sited on Glasgow Green since 1795. Many thousands of
persons owe their lives to the Society Officers and tens of
thousands more owe their lives to the Officer's teachings on
safety. Officers and volunteers have carried out vital tasks on
a daily basis over the last 221 years. In addition to this a fleet
of craft are kept in readiness on the water and on trailers to
respond instantly to situations like flooding.

Glasgow and surrounding Councils, Clyde Port Authority,
Strathclyde Police, Merchants House, Trades House,
Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, additional statutory
bodies and of course, the public of the Greater Glasgow area.

Enable The Glasgow Humane Society to:
- prevent accidents
- look after safety of river and riverbank users
- give safety advice to Councils, developers and individuals
- give safety cover at events
- maintain and develop our voluntary Lifeguard Corps
- make for a safer waterway environment

- maintain and keep its safety equipment
