New role for old city dock

GLASGOW is to have its own marina as part of plans to rejuvenate the city's Clyde waterfront.

Scottish Enterprise, the national regeneration and jobs agency, will this week outline plans for a 300-berth dock next to Glasgow Science Centre on the south bank of the river.

Developers are being asked to help turn an area of the old Prince's Dock into a hub of maritime activity.

Several points

A Marina is needed on the Clyde in the City for those who say it’s been muted before, you are correct, but better late than never.

Since most of our dock areas have been filled in, would this not be the opportunity to incorporate into this venture the Clyde Dock at Govan and the Dry Docks rather than as proposed filling them in.

We have an existing "marina" on the Clyde at Rutherglen--ok it’s technically not in Glasgow but is on the south bank of the river just downstream of the Dalmarnock railway Bridges.

It has long been suggested that this "marina" should have been moved into the heart of the City. These Glasgow people who own their cabin cruisers and yachts have worked hard developing their facilities but have always been cash strapped and of course there are few cruising opportunities upstream of the weir. Give them the chance of new facilities in their City

Use every bit of dockland still in existence for the good of the City, for the people in the City as well as the visitors should be a great development
