Letters to editor
Thanks for support

I, my fellow officer Antony Coia and our lifeguards would like to thank all those who wrote to theEvening Times last week in support of us.

As one of the supporters of the Glasgow Humane Society said, it is a pity that over 200 years of expertise and experience of the river is not being fully utilised.

Respect must be given to the fact that Strathclyde Fire and Rescue has been tasked by the Government, ratified by Strathclyde Police, to carry out rescue on waterways.

In all waterway work safety is paramount which is recognised by the operational procedures of the Society.

While the Glasgow Humane Society is forging ahead with the many other tasks that it was founded to perform, it makes sense that where there is the possibility of a Society boat being available to be first on the scene to carry out a rescue, it should be given every opportunity to do so. That is humanity', and that is why the word is in our name.
