Email sent to Glasgow City Council - 30/03/06
Dear Jim.
Much time has been spent recently trying to advice on the safest and most considerate (to other river users) way in which to carry out the work that has commenced upstream of the tidal weir. Agreements that had been reached regarding work base positions were broken and a compromise had to be reached.
After yesterdays flurry of phone calls and e mails it was most disappointing to observe the divers boat going upriver without again having consulted with the GHS, Mr John Bowie and therefore by proxy the other river users. Point 6 in the statement given to you by GHS and forwarded by you to Mr Labram has not been addressed.
I also note that work will be taking place this weekend. You were informed of their being a large number of racing craft on the river at weekends. While it was said that weekend work may be able to take place after everyone had seen the layout of the barges and the limits of the work area, it was not agreed that weekend work would commence immediately on the start of the work, it would be only after a trial period.
There are many months of work ahead so it is extremely unfortunate that we have got off to such a poor start regarding co operation. River users’ use of the river is going to be severely restricted and events are going to have to be moved or rescheduled. All river users have shown a willingness to co operate so far.
However it appears that decisions have been made outwith the consultation group.
The GHS are now considering placing a copy of this e mail on the web sites of the Society and the Rowing Association.
Yours sincerely
